Class Types

Several Class Types are offered at Unity Yoga & Wellness Studio. It is our belief that one should create a BALANCED yoga practice of Mind, Body and Spirit. Therefore, we offer our commUNITY a variety of yoga classes, special events, and Unity University learning experience workshops that Expand the Mind, Tend the Body and Feed the Spirit. We believe in the true experience (power) of yoga, joining Mind, Body & Spirit….. a journey for everyBODY.

MIND-ReFresh- Gentle ~ Expand the Mind…..

These classes will focus on MINDful movement. Majority of these classes are at a relatively slower pace and gentle, great for beginners or students who need a more mindful practice where they hold poses longer to balance an active lifestyle. This style of yoga helps bring peace to mind and body, preparing the body for deeper spiritual practices such as meditation. It will incorporate Universal Principles of Alignment that underlie all yoga postures, while encouraging flowing with grace and following your heart. The following principles may be addressed within these classes: proper posture (Asanas, 3rd limb of yoga); proper breathing (Pranayama 4th limb of yoga); proper relaxation (Pratyahara & Dharana 5th & 6th limb of yoga); and meditation (Dhyana, the 7th limb of yoga). These classes may vary, although most classes are modified for everyBODY some classes may be challenging, so it is a good idea to read individual class description before attending the class.

BODY-ReEnergize-Empower ~ Tend the Body…..

These classes will focus on Posture (asana) and Breath (pranayama) the 3rd and 4th Limbs of yoga. Majority of these classes are modified version of the Ashtanga style of yoga which has been past down from India in its attempt to make yoga more accessible to Western students. Classes can be intense and physical and involves synchronizing the breath with movement (vinyasa) moving through a rapid flow of sun salutations followed by a progressive series of postures—a process when properly done can produce intense internal heat and purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs.
These classes may be a set series of poses, or vinyasa style which refers to the continuous flow from one posture to the next, they may also be referred to as a flow class. It is typically fast-paced, vigorous and physically challenging. Unless otherwise noted these classes require previous yoga experience.

SPIRIT-ReStore-Still ~Feed the Spirit…..

kids yoga classThese classes incorporate the 5th 6th 7th and 8th limbs of yoga. They are gentle, relaxing, passive form of yoga that allows students to release the body and expand the mind and feed the spirit. These classes may focus more on breath rather than posture. Even though it is passive, this style can be quite challenging due to the long holds, particularly if your mind/ body is not used to it (slowing down). This style makes use of a wide range of props, including bolsters, blocks, straps and blankets. The intention is to provide support within each pose, making it easier to completely let go. These classes focus on the last 8-limbs of yoga and are therefore all about following and continuing your yoga journey towards inner calmness, focus and stillness without them, we really are not fully practicing yoga.
